Calling All Mom's! This is Why You Should Become a UGC Creator in 2024.
Mar 27, 2024
UGC Is For Everyone.
UGC or user-generated content has become the hot talk on socials everywhere, why? UGC has blown up as a way for content creators who do not have a following to make money online, and what's more? Brands are paying tons (and I mean TONS) of money to UGC creators to share their reviews, testimonials, and experiences about their products.
As a marketer with years of corporate and agency experience, I have found that almost all brands have one thing in common, in 2024. They are looking for creators (especially diverse ones) to make video content for their products + positively represent them on social media. It's what works, brings engagement, and makes the brand more relatable to the general public.
So what do I mean by diverse? Anything about you that makes you unique + relatable to a specific niche of people. Here are some examples of creators that brands tend to pay more for content creation:
- Pregnant women + moms of any age.
- Body-positive, all-inclusive sizing brands are always looking for creators of all shapes, sizes, and body types to create UGC content.
- Creators of all ethnicities, hair types, skin types, etc.
- Creators with disabilities - this includes both physical and mental disabilities.
- Creators who speak different languages or multiple languages.
- Creators above the age of 50 - both men and women.
- LBGTQ+ creators.
UGC is one of the few digital marketing careers I have found to be extremely inclusive and celebratory of human differences! The entire idea behind UGC content is authenticity when creators show up raw, real, and as themselves, it makes the content that much more reliable and trustworthy. A study showed in 2023 that consumers find UGC content 9.8x more impactful than influencer content when making a purchasing decision.
Where Are My Moms At?? I Think You'll Want To Hear This.
Our team at VITAMINC took on a large brand that wanted to implement UGC into its social media strategy, their target market was moms, therefore our team suggested we find mom creators to make both trending, testimonial + recipe videos including the brand's products. We chose 2 mom creators and ended up paying them collectively $30,000+ for their content. The brand's organic following, engagement + views soared when we chose creators that the audience could truly relate to, and it was a win-win for everyone in the partnership. Oh and the UGC creator rates??? $300 per video, 5 videos per month, they can charge more because there are fewer moms out there making quality UGC content, the supply is lower than the demand.
Best tips for mom creators:
Use #momugccreator or #newmomugccreator on posts from your social accounts, you can also add new mama, mom of 5, etc in your bio (this is how I find a lot of mom creators to hire through our agency).
Do not be afraid to negotiate your rates with brands, know that you can charge a little more for your quality content and stay in your worth!
A mom-child duo account is also a fun way to make mula $$$ and bond with your kid! It’s not something you see much in the world of UGC, so you’ll stand out without a doubt.
Why Do Brands Need Gen X Content Creators?
The Gen X population makes up 19.3% of U.S. residents, 65.1 million people who are primed to spend. Most Gen Xers are in their prime spending years, holding the purchasing power for their households plus their boomer parents. Gen X are holding all the cards, yet brands are having a difficult time marketing to them. 85% of Gen X say authenticity is important when deciding what brands they like and support.
Check out this video by @heyshannonlee on TikTok, she is a perfect example of the raw authenticity and value that a Gen X creator brings to a brand!
50+ Creators: Best Practices to Make $$$
We all know age is just a number but in this case, you can totally leverage your age to make a pretty penny for your quality UGC content.
To make sure brands know your age/demographic you can include it in your media kit or UGC portfolio when pitching. It's your preference whether you include your age on your social accounts or in your bio, using #genxcreator #50andupUGC is also a great way for brands to discover you!
Specifically targeting brands that market to Gen Xers and up is a great way to guarantee some great paying UGC brand deals, for example: collagen supplements, menopause products, joint care, retinol creams, women's clothing brands, vacations/cruises, retirement funds, etc.
A lot of the UGC agencies and creator hubs are also looking to fill the Gen X niche in their network so definitely look into signing up for a few or emailing and asking if they work with any brands in your demographic and check gigs posted on Upwork + LinkedIn.
